Staying Healthy In Spring: Tips to Prevent Disease and Support Your Immune System

We were fortunate enough to have had a mild Winter in New York City this year, very little snow days or freezing cold temperatures. However, the flu and cold are just as prevalent as ever. With uncertainties about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) it is even more important to practice good health hygiene.

Methods for Preventing the Spread of Respiratory Diseases

Ways to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases (Center for Disease Control and Prevention):

  • Wash your hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds, using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth without washing your hands first.
  • Always cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue or using your arm.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • If you are feeling sick, stay home.

Did you know only 5% of individuals wash their hands correctly? Clean Hands save lives! Washing your hands is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs and viruses.

Follow these 5 steps every time you wash your hands:

  • Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
  • Lather your hands by rubbing them together with soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
  • Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? The CDC recommends singing the “Happy Birthday Song” 2x, I, however, sing CSC+M is the coolest to the tune of “Happy Birthday.”
  • Rinse your hands well, under clean running water.
  • Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry.

Although this season’s flu vaccine will not protect you from the COVID-19 virus, the CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each season. As mentioned early this season’s flu is still very much prevalent in our community and is supposed to continue for the next several weeks as we transition into Spring. It is important to get vaccinated if you haven’t already. If you have yet to get your Flu vaccine let us know, and we would be happy to administer it in the office!

If you’ve already received your flu shot this year or you are looking for a more holistic way to fight of the cold and flu, check out our Immunity IV vitamin Drip! This infection-fighting IV drip contains a high dose of Vitamin C, Zinc and B-Complex. This specific cocktail works together to protect against oxidative stress within our cells and help prevent the invasion of foreign pathogens. IV administration ensures 100% of the vitamins are being absorbed into the bloodstream and not being lost by the digestive process.

Here’s What’s in the Immunity Drip

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

This is an antioxidant; infections cause oxidative stress in the body – therefore vitamin C can help deactivate and kill viruses and bacteria. Unfortunately, humans are unable to synthesize Vitamin C on their own, so it must be obtained externally, either through diet or supplementation. Several medical studies support the fact that Vitamin C may alleviate or prevent infections, protect against stress caused by the cold environment (Hello, NYC!) and may help halve the number of colds in physically active people. Additionally, regularly administered Vitamin C shortens the duration of a cold. Vitamin C is also found at higher levels in white blood cells than in plasma, which may be why it plays a role in helping fight infections.

B-Vitamins

There are actually 8 different B Vitamins and they all play roles in breaking down food into energy for the body, maintaining healthy nerve and organ tissue, and helping prevent anemia (low red blood cells). In particular, Vitamin B-6, aka pyridoxine, helps make new blood cells and plays a role in keeping the immune system strong and B-12, aka cobalamin, works to break down fatty and amino acids in order to produce energy and help prevent fatigue.

Zinc

This mineral is an antioxidant that is needed for immune function, normal growth and development, and wound healing. It plays a role in the growth and function of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps fight infections. As an antioxidant, it also works like Vitamin C to help fight off oxidative stresses in the body caused by temperature changes and infection. Zinc has been proven to shorten both the duration and severity of a cold by helping to prevent the replication of the rhinovirus and decreasing inflammation. Because the body cannot store zinc in any tissue or organ it must be consumed daily to maintain a steady-state.

With these 3 things combined, plus the hydration from the IV fluids, our Immunity Drip packs a serious punch to keep your immune system in tip-top shape. An Immunity IV Drip is perfect for anyone looking to ramp up their immune system before flu season, for individuals who are feeling a little under the weather, or for those before and after travel. So, the next time you get coughed on in the subway on your way to work or feeling “under the weather”, call CSC+M and schedule your Immunity IV Drip!

Stay healthy this Spring and know we have more than just your spine you covered!
