T4-8 Postural Dysfunction
Our previous blog went over the Brugger’s position as an ideal “micro break” to combat the slumped posture of T4-8 dysfunction along with chiropractic adjustments, but you can’t stop there. Functional corrective exercises are needed to truly change posture and alleviate symptoms.
Check out the attached video to see:1. Beginner: Brugger’s exercise
2. Intermediate: extension over the ball
3. Advanced: wall slide exercise
4. Compound movements You can then progress to the foam roll for the angel and lat stretch with focus on T4-8. If you can do these, then, it is time to put it all together with rolling patterns.
T4-8 is a common source of muscle imbalance, trigger points, joint dysfunction, and faulty movement patterns. While often asymptomatic, it is a key source of biomechanical overload involving the neck, TMJ, shoulder, arm, and even low back regions.
Treatments which aim only at the site of painful symptoms are bound to fail if function is disturbed due to excessive slumped posture in the mid-back.
