Neck & Cervical Spine Pain Treatment at The Center For Spine Care & Mobility

The Center For Spine Care and Mobility

At The Center For Spine Care and Mobility, we stand out with our unique approach to diagnosing and treating neck and upper back pain. This approach has been successful for roughly 50% of our patient population.

Importance of Diagnosis in Treatment

A thorough history-taking and examination are imperative to accurately diagnose and treat neck and upper back pain. Multiple structures consist of soft tissue, ligaments, nerve tissue, and bone. These tissues work collectively to perform movement patterns. The entire complex can be affected if one or more elements are not functioning properly. We like to use the analogy of a stack of blocks. Each block is placed on top of each other, creating a symmetrical stack. If one of these blocks shifts, even slightly, the entire structure is thrown off, and pain can ensue.

Our Chiropractic Approach

Our job as chiropractors in an integrative health center like The Center For Spine Care and Mobility is to find the root cause of the problem. Our responsibility is to lengthen the tight, stuck soft tissue and bone structures and realign the musculoskeletal system. Once the musculoskeletal system is balanced, the nervous system will function free of impingement. Our primary tools consist of our hands and the ability to palpate or feel the areas of dysfunction. Through a system of elimination, we can break down stuck, tight tissue elements and align bone.

Lengthening stuck, tight tissue and aligning your musculoskeletal system is only part of the big picture. From here, we would like to incorporate a strengthening component, such as physical therapy. Combining strengthening exercises with lengthening and alignment gives the patient the best healing opportunity.

Cervical Manipulation: Is It Necessary?

The question we hear often is whether cervical manipulation is necessary to treat neck pain. The answer is more complex than one might think. People associate cervical manipulation with the high velocity, low amplitude manipulation seen so often in TikTok videos and Instagram memes. The truth is those types of manipulations, if done properly, are helpful and efficacious, but not for everyone. At The Center For Spine Care and Mobility, plenty of patients are treated for neck pain and never have a manipulation of that magnitude. By having multiple tools in your toolbox, the chiropractor has options for cervical manipulation.

Alternative Techniques and Comprehensive Care

For example, the Active Release Technique is a highly effective form of soft tissue manipulation requiring little to no high-velocity movements. Understanding the root cause of the pain and having an array of tools to treat it allows you to be more successful in care.

At The Center For Spine Care and Mobility, we take a comprehensive approach to patient care. We offer various services, including chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, and medical services, to cater to the diverse needs of our patient population across New York City.

Patient-Centric Approach

We employ whatever is best for the patient to achieve optimal results. Patients will present with different complaints and tell us they have already tried acupuncture or physical therapy with limited results. Integrating these services increases the potential to heal, and the chance of getting that patient better and quicker rises.
