What is Kinesiotape?
Kinesiotape, also known as Kinesio tape or KT tape, is a therapeutic elastic tape designed to support and stabilize muscles and joints without restricting their range of motion.
Kinesiotape was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970s and has since become popular in both athletic and medical settings. It is made from cotton fabric with an acrylic adhesive that mimics the skin’s elasticity, allowing it to move with the body.
Benefits of Kinesiotape
Kinesiotape alleviates pain, reduces inflammation, enhances performance, prevents injuries, and promotes better circulation and healing.
At The Center For Spine Care and Mobility, we use KT tape as an adjunct to enhance and facilitate the integrated healing process. Its application can help to support injured muscles or joints, improve proprioception (body awareness), and facilitate lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin.
Applications for Posture Correction
Posture correction and the ability to set the neck and shoulders back and down is an excellent application of kinesiotape. If you are suffering from neck and upper back pain, ask your provider about kinesiotape and how it might be able to help you.
